Building a T-Slot spoil board out of MDF for your CNC machine can be done quite easily in an evening and requires very little in the way of special bits/material. Best of all you will have no more worries about ruining your nice aluminum t-slot table!
Project information:
Material
3/4″ MDF
340mm x 525mm (W x L)
Bits:
6mm 2-flute endmill – https://amzn.to/1NDss5h
1/4″ T-Slot Bit – https://amzn.to/1NDsgml
5/8″ Straight Bit – https://amzn.to/1PBmvTO
Toolpath Feeds and Speeds:
Holes/Pocketing – 6mm End Mill: 12000 RPM, 2400mm/min
Slots (Bulk Removal) – 6mm End Mill: 12000 RPM, 2400mm/min
Slots (T-Slot Bit) – 1/4″ T-Slot Bit: 18000 RPM, 600mm/min
Surface Leveling – 5/8″ Straight Bit: 18000 RPM, 2000mm/min
Notes:
I subtracted 30mm off of the total length to allow the T-Slot bit room to completely enter/exit the spoilboard from the side of the material.
Watch out for the tops of the pan head screws when carving your T-slots! I had to adjust my Z depth so I would not hit them (I still ‘shaved’ the tops on a few of them
)
The table leveling is a pass over the complete spoilboard at 0.2mm depth.
