This course will feature a bolt design example utilizing AWC’s 2015 National Design Specification® (NDS®) for Wood Construction. Topics will include connection design philosophy and behavior, an overview of 2015 NDS provisions related to bolt design including Appendix E for local stresses in fastener groups, and a detailed design example.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
1. Understand application of the six yield limit equations for dowel-type connection design
2. Know when to utilize applicable adjustment factors for common bolted connections
3. Apply spacing, end, and edge distance requirements for wood-to-wood bolted connections
4. Be able to determine local stresses in fastener groups
