On a daily bases, RMT’s Mr. Ed would be required to take a sample of 5 bolts from each batch and tension each of the 5 on a Skidmore to determine the amount of pressure in PSI required to reach a predetermined tension in kips. Mr. Ed would drop the high and the low of each set of 5 and average the middle three values. This value was then called out to the field for the bolting technicians to use when torqueing the Clipper or GE wind tower bolts in place. Note the gauge on the Skidmore which reads the predetermined tension value in kips and the gauge on the Power Team pe55twp/hytorc pump giving the needed psi value needed for the field. The gentleman in the yellow hat is Mr. Ed from RMT and the gentleman in the brown hat is with Clipper Wind Towers. Filmed in Milford, UT July 2009 were 50 Clipper towers and 50 GE towers where installed in less than 12 weeks.
