Brand new units 2014 and newer have a Bulkier/Larger gas cap. It is identical internally but is bulkier/larger and won’t allow the Briggs valve to be screw in. You need to extend the reach by using these parts, instead of the listed ones above:

You hook a short piece of 1/4″ID fuel line from this barb to the right angle shut off valve.
