Time to investigate and fix the damage I had on the first outing with the DBXL, see what caused it and more importantly, get it up and running again. This video will be the kick off for a brief upgrade series in which I will use a very limited budget to turn the DBXL into a more reliable, faster and better looking car than it currently is. In this video I will get into the basic electronics such as the servos, and show you the difference in performance you will get by investing a tiny bit of money into a different set for your Losi DBXL. I opted for some HiTec mega scale servos. HiTec is a very known brand that has always served me very well, and I’m sure that these servos will stand up to the abuse this car will see during summer.
I will try to give you the most honest review of this vehicle that you have seen to this date. I’m no stranger to 5th scale RC’s, this will be the 7th large scale RC that I add to my collection. And I know it’s fairly entry level, but do you get value for money? There are more than a few points that could definitely use some improving and upgrading, which isn’t strange with a ready to run car, but I do feel there are a few issues that I would have liked to seen addressed before my car actually passed quality control.
As an entry level 5th scale it is a welcome addition to what is already available on the market.

ZS Comp – For Composition Shingle Roofs
ZS CompTM offers the fastest and least expensive way to install PV arrays for composition roof applications. It’s designed to interoperate with a growing list of Zep Compatible PV modules that incorporate the patented Zep Groove frame specification. Utilizing quarter-turn, rock-in, and drop-in connections, ZS Comp eliminates the need for rails and separate grounding hardware while offering a superior aesthetic approach.
ZS Tile – For Tile Roofs
ZS Tile™ offers the fastest and least expensive way to install PV arrays for tile roof applications. It’s designed to interoperate with a growing list of Zep Compatible PV modules that incorporate the patented Zep Groove frame specification. With a series of drop-in, rock-in, and quarter-turn connections, ZS Tile installs without the use of lengthy rails and separate grounding hardware and is universally adaptable to third-party roof attachment solutions such as tile-hooks, hanger bolts, and flashed standoffs.
ZS Trap – For Trapezoidal Metal Roofs
ZS Trap™ offers the fastest and least expensive way to install PV arrays for trapezoidal metal roof applications. It’s designed to interoperate with a growing list of Zep Compatible PV modules that incorporate the patented Zep Groove frame specification. Utilizing quarter-turn, rock-in, and drop-in connections, ZS Trap eliminates the need for rails and separate grounding hardware while offering a superior aesthetic approach.
ZS Wave – For Corrugated Metal Roofs
ZS Wave™ offers the fastest and least expensive way to install PV arrays for baten-mounted corrugated metal roof applications. It’s designed to interoperate with a growing list of Zep Compatible PV modules that incorporate the patented Zep Groove frame specification. Utilizing quarter-turn, rock-in, and drop-in connections, ZS Wave eliminates the need for rails and separate grounding hardware while offering a superior aesthetic approach.
*ZS Wave is intended for roof structures constructed with east-west framing members.
ZS Seam – For Standing Seam Metal Roofs
ZS Seam™ offers the fastest and least expensive way to install PV arrays for standing seam metal roof applications. It’s designed to interoperate with a growing list of Zep Compatible PV modules that contain the patented Zep Groove frame specification. Utilizing quarter-turn, rock-in, and drop-in connections, ZS Seam eliminates the need for rails and separate grounding hardware while offering a superior aesthetic approach.
MISSION
At Zep Solar, our mission is to advance the proliferation of solar energy through cleverly designed products that optimize the efficiency of resources such as time, money, materials, space, and energy while providing our customers with quality products and services. We’re here to make the jobs of solar installers easier, safer, and more profitable – and, in so doing, to provide a major reduction in the cost of solar. Our company is also deeply committed to the well being of our employees, our communities, and the world. We believe that a world powered by the sun is achievable in our lifetime, and we’re committed to making it happen.
HISTORY
In the late 1990′s, photovoltaic systems engineer Jack West, inspired with the possibilities for improving PV installation systems, began experimenting with new methods and hardware to decrease materials, labor, and costs while increasing function, acceptance, and aesthetics. After co-founding High Sun Engineering with Christina Manansala in 2000, West spent the next 9 years designing PV systems and perfecting and patenting his solar mounting inventions.
In 2004, West began assembling a team of PV industry veterans, visionary Silicon Valley product engineers, and angel investors – all focused on the goal of developing and commercializing a whole new approach to PV structure. At the core, this approach is based on a singular vision: solar panel frames rapidly interlocked with specialized couplings to form a solidly grounded, rigid structural grid. In 2009, West and Manansala, along with seasoned PV contractor, Daniel Flanigan, co-founded Zep Solar, Inc. to bring this revolutionary mounting system to market. After 5 years of intensive designing, building, and testing, the realization of this vision, Zep Solar, was launched in the US.
