Nylon washers are spacing components that are meant to be used between the head of a fastener, such as a bolt or a screw, and the surface in which that fastener is installed. They can also be used between a nut and an installation surface. Whether used alone or stacked, they’ll help to distribute load or force.
Without a nylon washer, the pressure within a fastener assembly could cause an installation to warp or wear. If that occurs, the head of a fastener or nut could become embedded in a surface, making tightening and loosening difficult and compromising the security of a fastener assembly.
