My Van has Air Conditioning so it has the Air Con Unit on the Belt.

I had complete Power Steering Failure & battery not charging. This is usually because the Belt has snapped. But after investigation it turned out to be the Serpentine Belt Tensioner Unit had failed catastrophically (due to the Alternator Clutch Pulley seizing intermittently).

This is my Video on the diagnosis & how we replaced it.

    VW Part Number is 038 903 315

By the way I am not a Mechanic, just trying to save some money & help someone out. Was hard to get any information about this on the Internet.

Obviously you need to figure out why the the tensioner failed (& if the belt snapped). On mine it was the Alternator Clutch Pulley so replaced that (don’t need to replace the Alternator) as well.

Hopefully this will help someone out there.

    Good Luck.

Thanks to my Dad for doing the Job, great stuff.
