We use a very basic tool, a needle, to scrape the foreign body from the eye. This simple approach is often successful. However, incomplete removal of the associated rust ring sometimes occurs and in this case deeper buried fragments remained and were subsequently removed by the ophthalmologist using an ophthalmic burr.
