Pep Boys presents: How to quickly install the 8141R, Accel’s HEI Corrected distributor cap that organizes your spark plug wires by correcting the firing order.
1. The first thing you want to do is to disconnect the pigtail connector from the HEI, and pull your coil cover off.
2. Take your coil out of the HEI. Remember where the ground strap goes.
3. Lift out the coil, pull flag connectors and save your ground strap, grommet and carbon brush.
4. Mark your number one cylinder and make sure your rotor is lined up.
5. Then you can take the HEI cap off.
6. Make sure you are lined up pointing to number one cylinder.
7. Put the new HEI cap on and screw down.
8. Put the coil back in with carbon brush, washer, ground strap, coil positive and coil negative.
9. Screw coil back down into cap.
10. Put coil cover back on and screw in place.
11. Plug the coil back in with pigtail.
12. The firing order 1357 the same on the even bank 2468.
13. Hook up number 1 then 3, 5 and 7. You can see that the wires are coming straight off the cap with no chance of cross arcing.
