ASTM A193
Scope
Originally approved in 1936, this specification is heavily utilized in petroleum and chemical construction applications. The ASTM standard covers alloy steel and stainless steel bolting materials for high temperature service. This specification includes fasteners intended for use in pressure vessels, valves, flanges, and fittings. Although, this material is often available in national coarse (UNC) thread pitches, if being used in traditional applications, threads are specified 8 threads per inch (tpi) for diameters above one inch.
Below is a basic summary of a few of the common grades. ASTM A193 covers a number of other standard specifications not covered in this description including B5, B6, and B16.

Learn how to install metal storm shutter panels with this helpful how-to video from Lowe’s. Aluminum hurricane shutters are a great choice due to their strong, lightweight design that are quick and easy to install. Once you install the metal storm shutter track, you can easily remove and re-install your storm shutters whenever needed.
Start off by measuring each window opening dimensions. When you have all of the measurements, take them to your local Lowe’s and ask an associate whether stock panels will work or if you need to order custom storm panels. It is also important to get the correct type of mounting hardware depending on if you have a wood, brick or block exterior.
You can use build-out tracks or mount the panels horizontally. On the build-out track, mark centered holes 3″ from each end and every 6″ in between .Then drill the holes and mark the center of each piece. Mark a 6″ vertical marks center on your house above and below the window sill. Secure the header with a concrete screw, level and add the other screws. A watertight seal can be achieved with a line of caulk. Attach the bottom track, and then you can start inserting the metal panels.
