To adjust a wheel bearing on a trailer axle, first torque the inner adjusting nut to 200 ft. lbs. to seat the bearing rollers and the wheel seal. Always rotate the hub while torqueing the nut. Torque the adjusting nut to 200 ft. lbs. while rotating the hub. Then back the nut off one turn. Now, torque the nut to 50 ft. lbs. then back it off 1/4 turn. Install the retaining hardware and torque the jam nut to the proper specifications. For nuts less than 2 5/8″ 200-300 ft. lbs. and nuts greater than 2 5/8″ 300-400 ft. lbs, install the dial indicator and check in play. In play should be within 1 — 5000ths of an inch. If the in play is not within specs re-adjust the inner nut to obtain the correct in play.
