A digital short introducing the 2014 Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts Outfielders of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League
Bob, a MuggyWeld.com customer traveled 200 miles to attend an antique car show in search of a repair for three broken zinc belt buckles. We are using a propane torch and Super Alloy 1 low temp solder. The solder melts at half the temperature of zinc die cast. This is a common problem with zinc or pot metal belt buckles as the constant strain over time can wear the soft metal down. Watch the liquid flux turn brown when the parent white metal is heated. When the flux turns brown the rod is applied, indirect heating is advised when working with this low temp alloy rod.
Bob had tried the “soda can” repair guys the day before but they said this was an impossible job. Luckily he had approached our booth with his rare collection of 1940 ford, automobile buckles. He said they were all broken in the same area where the steel clasp that hold the belt meets the the zinc buckle.
In this video you will see just how easy it is to repair this common problem with a few tools around your home and Super Alloy 1 rod and flux.
