The College of Natural Resources was honored to welcome Dr. Heather Tallis, Acting Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, as the 2016 lecture speaker.
As complex problems like climate change, water scarcity and inequality blur the lines of traditional sectors, we have the chance to change the way we think about and manage forests. Some cities are already embracing forests as part of their water infrastructure, making investments that diversify forest revenues and improve drinking water quality. Emerging research shows even more provocative possibilities for forests, suggesting they may increase test scores, improve health, or even prevent death. Dr. Heather Tallis explores how these new insights might change the way we value and manage forests.
Learn how to install metal storm shutter panels with this helpful how-to video from Lowe’s. Aluminum hurricane shutters are a great choice due to their strong, lightweight design that are quick and easy to install. Once you install the metal storm shutter track, you can easily remove and re-install your storm shutters whenever needed.
Start off by measuring each window opening dimensions. When you have all of the measurements, take them to your local Lowe’s and ask an associate whether stock panels will work or if you need to order custom storm panels. It is also important to get the correct type of mounting hardware depending on if you have a wood, brick or block exterior.
You can use build-out tracks or mount the panels horizontally. On the build-out track, mark centered holes 3″ from each end and every 6″ in between .Then drill the holes and mark the center of each piece. Mark a 6″ vertical marks center on your house above and below the window sill. Secure the header with a concrete screw, level and add the other screws. A watertight seal can be achieved with a line of caulk. Attach the bottom track, and then you can start inserting the metal panels.
