ThruLOK® is a secure way to attach deck posts and carrying beams. and is much easier to install than a traditional carriage bolt, nut and washer. The traditional installation method requires a drill, drill bit, hammer, and wrench for install. ThruLok®, however, only requires a high torque variable speed 1/2″ drill. The ThruLOK® system combines the speed of a LOK product with the strength of a through-bolted connection in two decking applications: Single 2″ x 4″ board to a 4″ x 4″ decking post (6 1⁄4″), and two 2″ x 4″ boards to a 4″ x 4″ decking post (8″). ThruLOK® works on all types of pressure treated wood.

https://www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/framing/index.html Unless you remodeled an older home, you might not be familiar with square washers holding down the bottom plates of the wall framing. Worst yet, he might not be familiar with anchor bolts that aren’t located properly and could be sticking out of the wall. This wasn’t uncommon when I first started working as a framing carpenter in 1978. Watch this video to get a better idea about older home construction and what they are doing different today and the reasons why.
