This video demonstrates an advanced GOOGLE VOICE AUDIO MIXER setup – using UBUNTU and the JACK AUDIO CONNECTION KIT, KXstudio- Carla, using free windows vst plugins for noise filtering and audio EQ. The latest version of CARLA will run windows VST PLUGINS by itself. The basic setup is demonstrated on how to use VST PLUGINS for noise filtering to remove background hiss from the phone audio, and then apply EQ, COMPRESSION/Limiter for better volume control and audio fidelity to all voices/audio present in the google voice conversation. A VST AGC plugin is used to control volumes from the MICROPHONE and any audio being played via web browser or media files. The caller’s voice will always be heard above the media audio file/or/ browser audio.
NOTE: this is an advanced setup, and knowledge of jack audio connection kit and KXstudio’s APPs for JACK AUDIO in required to fully understand this video tutorial.
NOTE: i found using another alsa loopback soundcard for the google voice microphone, instead of the kxstudio “jack2alsa”[default microphone], worked better for sending audio from my microphone to the google voice input. I just added one more loopback to the etc/modules file, so I would have 3 loopback soundcards -[ snd-aloop enable=1,1,1 ] in etc modules. [loopback soundcard "0" is usually the first loopback sound card listed in aplay-l or arecord -l ] ..so… for MICROPHONE choose direct sample snooping device for loopback soundcard1, and for SPEAKERS choose direct sampling mixing device for loopback soundcard2. [[NOTE: you wont see in google voice the loopback sound card numbers..but it is easy to figure out, they go down the list in order from loopback zero to loopback soundcard 2 ]]Use the alsa_in and alsa_out commands to setup these loopback soundcards in jack so you can route all the google voice audio. “alsa_out hw:1,0″ for microphone and “alsa_in hw:2,0″…something like that…where the 2nd and 3rd alsa loopback soundcard are used respectively for MIC and SPEAKERS in the google voice settings. ( find out your soundcard listings with the arecord -l and aplay -l commands )

once you setup the alsa_in and asla_out commands, you can call your own phone and test these settings…the settings / options screen- in google voice – will let you make changes “on the fly” …so you can see which option for loopback soundcards work best for your system. The only options that worked for me were the “DIRECT SAMPLE” options for these alsa loopback soundcards.
