This 2007 BMW 530i has the battery mounted in the trunk and the battery was dead/disconnected. The hood was open while working on the car. At the time I didn’t know there was a spare key in the remote but if you run into a similar problem this was the only way to open it. Trying to jimmy the door handle open would not work because of the lock system.
