Most modern road bikes, including aluminum framed ones, come with carbon forks and carbon steerer tubes. Because of the more delicate nature of carbon, setting a traditional star nut into the steerer tube is no longer an option. This is where a steerer tube expander, or compression plug, comes in handy.
