Welcome to “Mix-It Fix-It Master-It” Rural Living and How-To Channel.

I’ve fabricated an attachment for my BCS 853 to plow snow.

Turns out this is a sweet setup. The BCS with this plow moves tons of heavy snow, (and how), does not bog down in the slightest, and with no slippage. It will even plow uphill.

You can plow paths across lawns and fields as well to get to the barn or your livestock without having to walk through deep drifts of snow.

The plow was purchased from Butch’s Small Engine repair in Andover, Ohio for $70. He had a few different plows, along with many and varied mowers and attachments. Kind of like a scrap pile, nothing new here. I chose a plow from an old Simplicity riding mower.

I also picked up some pieces of structural steel: channel, square tube, 1/4″ plate, and etc., from Horodyski’s in Burghill, Ohio. The cost here was $26.

I then welded the cut pieces into a framework that would bolt to a male Quick-Hitch. It is an easy way, and fast, to attach my new plow to the walking tractor.

The whole setup was too light to balance the heavy motor of the BCS so I welded a square tube peg on the brace member on top of the framework and added a five pound Olympic weight and a fourty-five pound plate. This was plenty and the entire setup balances well.

Plows that I’ve seen sold commercially from the largest BCS dealer in the USA range in price from $450-$650, plus shipping, and in their description they clearly state that the purchaser may not be satisfied with the results.
