NOTES:
This is the Hayward Selecta Flow Multiport Valve. It tends to fail over time. You will notice water leaking from the top or the valve will be impossible to turn.
This is due to the O-ring in the handle getting pinched or damaged by the spring that sits below it. The O-ring in the handle is pretty much impossible to change due to the nature of the design of the valve. The best and only thing to do is replace the valve.
Remember to order the exact model number of the valve you are replacing. It is a simple repair. Pop one out and insert the other (just remember how the old one was sitting so you can re-insert the new one correctly).
The best way to make these valve last a long time is to use them sparingly. That means limit the backwashing between filter cleanings (basically don’t use the valve). I only use them twice a year when I do the filters. That seems to give them the longest lifespan. Of course if you need to backwash your filter go ahead and do it.

Great Tip to Keep a Bolt on a Socket.
If you need to keep a nut or a bolt from falling off a socket, there are several ways to keep a nut or bolt from falling off a socket, but the nest way is to use some strip caulking. I guarantee that just a little strip caulking on the end of the socket wrench will keep that nut or bolt from falling out of the socket. This is a good diy auto mechanic tip, especially when you are trying to start a bolt or nut in an area on the engine that is hard to reach. How many times did you try to start a bolt or a nut in an area that you can not see and is an engine area that is hard to reach and it only led to you dropping the bolt or nut or worse yet losing the dropped bolt or nut. By using some strip caulking to hold the nut or bolt on the end of the socket, it will make it much easier to thread that nut or bolt in places that you can not see or hard very difficult to reach or work on. Strip calking is a must-have for any diy auto mechanic or weekend mechanic and strip caulking has many, many automotive uses. It is a very handy mechanic tip to know.
